Nickname: Zanin , Batavo, Batavéx, Véx..

Born and raised: Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil

Based now: Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil

Stance: Regular

When and how did you start surfing?

I grew up in a family that always loved the beach. Florianópolis is an island surrounded by perfect waves, so it was pretty easy to have contact with surfing. My Dad and my Mom used to surf. They took me and my brothers to the beach since we were pretty young. They gave me my first surfboard when I was 10, with a huge shark art on the bottom. hahaha Since the first time I surfed I fell in love.

Who are the surfers that inspires you?

Ricardo dos Santos, Yago Dora, Marco Giorgi, Miguel Pupo, Ian Gouveia, Dane Reynolds, Rolando Montes, Taj Burrow, Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, and a long long long list.

Where are your favorite surf spots that you've been to?

That's a hard one. Every place has its unique beauty. Nias, Indonesia has a special place in my heart, 2018 I filmed the biggest barrels of my life when I was there. Also, Pipeline, since I was a kid I've always dreamed about going to Hawaii, and in 2016/2017 I had the chance to stay at the Volcom House for almost 3 months, so I could see how magic and special Pipeline is. The Maldives is sick, friendly locals and perfect waves, Chile is sick also. hahaha, dude that's a hard one, we live on such a beautiful planet.

Where are the surf spots you want to visit in the future that you've never been to?

I have never been to Tahiti, I think that's my main goal for the future. And I really would like to explore Northern Europe for a bit, Irish slabs look pretty incredible to shoot. Maybe one day.

Which type of surfboards and fin setups are you into?

Nowadays, I'm a bit more heavy ( laughs ) and chilling, so I've been using twin fins and longboard when it's pretty small and fun.

Which one video would you highlight in this playlist and why?

OTRA VUELTA - Marco Giorgi / That was a pretty special one, we shot this clip in 2020 during this pandemic year. We normally spend a lot of time traveling around the globe hunting for swells and perfect waves, and then we got stuck at home. So we had time to wait for the perfect swells for the spots we have here. It was pretty sick to score some good barrels around the home. Marco is a pretty close friend too, so it makes the video more special.

Gear: Black Magic Pocket 4K, Super 8 CANON 514XL, Rokinon Lens 35mm, CANON MARKII 100-400mm.

Editing tool: Final Cut, for life hahaha!

What's your favorite focal length?

It depends where you shooting, some waves break pretty far away from the coast. But I love to shoot surfing super tight, when it's super close you can see the details, the speed, the magic.

When and how did you start filming?

I started filming when I was 14. I and my friends used to film ourselves doing some shit just like ''JACKASS" in our neighborhood. I was the one responsible for filming and editing. And then I started filming my friends surfing, skating, and when I was 19 I decided to take it as a job. Ricardo dos Santos helped me a lot on my first steps. He took me on some surf trips and introduced me to some producers.
